Rubbish Removal/Recycling
Most of the South End Community is on a two day trash pick-up schedule (Tuesday and Friday mornings). Some areas of the South End are on a different schedule, so if you are new to the neighborhood, please ask your neighbors or call City Hall for more information. In general, trash is to be placed curb-side no earlier than 5:00PM the previous evening
The South End also participates in the cities blue-box recycling program. To get a blue box, call 617-635-7573. Recycling pick-up is done on the first trash day of the week (in most cases Tuesday).
The City also provides recycling for paint, motor oil, and yard waste like leaves and clippings. For more information, call 617 635-4559.
Street Cleaning
The City of Boston Sweeps neighborhood streets on a regular schedule from April 1st to November 31st. Street Sweeping days and times are clearly marked with signs. Failure to move you car on street sweeping day WILL result in a ticket and your car may also be towed.
Resident Parking Stickers
Resident parking stickers are free. To get yours you need to present a valid registration proving that your car is registered and principally garaged in your name and at your address. Also, there must be no outstanding Boston parking violations against either your current of previous plates.
What proof of residency can I use? You must present the following at Boston City Hall annually to receive one: - A valid Massachusetts vehicle registration & license
- Vehicle must be garaged and insured in Boston
- Proof of residency - gas, electric, telephone, credit card bill, cable, or bank statement (not a home mortgage statement) that you have received in the past 30 days
- If you do not have a current bill, you may prove residency by showing a copy of your lease and car registration

Contact your insurance company because your car has to be insured in Boston before it can be registered in the City. Your insurance agent can take you from there.
Where do my visitors park?
The City does not provide visitor-parking stickers. However, there are visitor parking spots in the neighborhood (usually the first two spots at the head and foot of each street), as well as various “two-hour” parking spots and meter parking. Some school parking lots also serve as “city-lots” after school hours, where residents and guests can park. Please ask your neighbors or consult City Hall before parking in these areas to ensure that they are designated as city-lots, and to find when you are allowed to use them as such (most school lots require that you are out prior to 6:45AM).
